This story arc was comprised of 61 episodes for the Japanese version, and 69 episodes for the International version, raising the total episode count for the entire Kai series to 159 episodes for the Japanese version and 167 episodes for the International version. This is not a new animation, but rather a remastered edit that runs through Dragon Ball Z to provide a presentation that is as faithful to the as possible, removing a majority of DBZ's padding and filler. Part of this is reformatting and extending the picture to 16:9 Widescreen. However, for episodes 1-98, this only exists with the footage used for the Japanese and Nicktoons broadcasts; the footage used for the home media release and Toonami broadcasts are in the original 4:3 ratio. Through digital processing, the image was made vibrant.

In February 2009, Toei announced that they would begin rebroadcasting Dragon Ball Z as part of the series' 20th anniversary celebrations. The series premiered on April 5, 2009, under the name Dragon Ball Kai, with the episodes remastered for HDTV, featuring updated opening and ending sequences, and a rerecording of the vocal tracks by most of the original cast.

English adaptations Dragon Ball Z Kai, 'The Final Chapters' logo The title screen translations are far more similar this time around, but are changed to fit properly into English. Edits were been made to the version appearing on Nicktoons; these include the removal of blood (which sometimes is replaced with black grayish liquid where the blood is supposed to be), overly violent moments, profanity and others. The CW's Toonzai airings, however, were edited even more so than the Nicktoons version, due to tighter restrictions on broadcast programming. These edits include recoloring 's skin from black to blue, replacing dead characters' halos with glowing orbs, removing virtually all references to death in both dialogue and episode titles, and renaming certain special techniques (i.e. Goku's renamed as the 'Spirit Blast' and Vegeta's as the 'Galick Blast'). Also in the beginning of the intro song, Toonzai edited out Shenron and replaced him with a green colored sky. On Nicktoons, the series aired from May 24, 2010 to February 8, 2013.
In 2018, reminded us how much we love all things Dragon Ball (and was a fantastic game in its own right). Many of us, in the US at least, got into the series when Dragon Ball Z aired on Toonami. But if you want to revisit the anime--or if you want to watch any of the Dragon Ball series for the first time--it can be a little tricky to know where to find them.
Buu is about to blast each of them when Gohan saves them. Buu then uses Gotenks' Galactic Doughnut trick on Gohan, and aims a Kamehameha wave at him, but Gohan is able to summon enough strength to break free and move out of the way in time. Meanwhile, in Other World, King Yemma decides to send Vegeta back to earth to help in the fight against Majin Buu. On the world of the Kais, Old Kai decides to give his life to Goku so he can return to Earth and fight Buu. The now deceased Old Kai gives Goku his earrings. He explains to Goku that if he and another person each wear one, they will fuse together.
He repeatedly dominates Buu, which makes Buu angrier and angrier. Vegito is just toying with him. Buu hatches a plan, and calls Vegito out. Vegito comes closer, and Buu turns him into candy.
Dragon Ball Z Kai Season 1 Episode 1
Buu creates another massive energy ball and throws it down at the planet. Goku is able to deflect it, but Buu guides the ball back around and into the planet. Powerful shock waves rock the entire planet, disfiguring its shape and leaving the surface ragged and uneven. Goku decides to power up to Super Saiyan 3. Kid Buu is blasted apart by the explosion, but he reforms after the destruction of the Earth, and goes on a rampage throughout the galaxy. He goes from planet to planet, looking for Goku and Vegeta, and then destroys each planet when he doesn't find them. He goes to the Grand Kai's planet, and starts to toy with everyone there.

It was produced in commemoration of the original series' 20th and 25th anniversaries. Produced by, the series was originally broadcast in Japan on from April 5, 2009 to March 27, 2011. A follow-up series, adapting the remaining story arcs, aired in Japan from April 6, 2014 to June 28, 2015. Kai features remastered picture, sound, and special effects as well as a re-recorded voice track by most of the original cast. As most of the series' sketches and animation had been discarded since the final episode of Dragon Ball Z in 1996, new frames were produced by digitally tracing over still frames from existing footage and filling them with softer colors. This reduced visible damage to the original animation.

Gohan's tail suddenly grows back and he transforms into a Great Ape. Vegeta cuts Gohan's tail off in mid-air, but Gohan falls and lands on him.
Meanwhile, Goku is ten minutes away from landing on Namek. 30 12 'The Nightmare Recoome! Come Out and Play, Vegeta!' November 1, 2009 July 14, 2010 Vegeta begins battling Recoome, the big brute of the Ginyu Force. While the Saiyan prince manages to get in a few good blows, ultimately Recoome doesn't seem to be suffering any damage.
