Elsewhere, an odd-looking spacecraft crash lands on Earth. He begins rushing towards the battlefield, and along the way encounters an ailing Nail, on the brink of death. Piccolo reluctantly performs Namekian fusion with Nail, which increases his power substantially, and begins rushing back to the battlefield. Meanwhile, Frieza, after battling the Earthlings and Vegeta in his first form, transforms to his second form following some goading from Vegeta - and this increases the tyrant's power level to over a million. With his increased power, Frieza charges at Krillin in the air, impaling him on one of his horns. 38 20 'Frieza Bares His Fangs!
They then use the second wish to teleport Piccolo to Namek so he can assist them in their fight with Frieza, but they are not specific enough in their wish; as a result Piccolo is indeed transported to Namek, but ends up quite a distance away from his friends and the imminent battle with Frieza. At this point Vegeta awakens and learns he's been duped. He speeds angrily to where Porunga is hovering over Namek and almost attacks Krillin and Gohan until they tell him there is still one wish left; after some debate it is decided to let Vegeta use the wish to become immortal, as it seems to be the only possible way to defeat Frieza.

Noticing Gohan is also a Saiyan, Raditz kidnaps him in hopes of Goku joining him. Piccolo visits Goku and the two form an uneasy alliance in order to defeat Raditz. With the help of the Dragon Radar, they arrive at the location Raditz is holding Gohan hostage and begin their fight with Raditz.
After Goku succeeds in making him laugh, King Kai tells him to catch his monkey, Bubbles. Gohan and Krillin enter battle after Vegeta becomes too badly injured to continue fighting, but quickly find themselves similarly beaten and outclassed by the hulking Ginyu Force member. As Piccolo grabs Nappa's tail, Gohan rushes to finish the fight. However, it seems that Nappa and Vegeta have evolved past their weaknesses, and they are no longer crippled when their tail is pulled. With their plan a failure, Nappa begins to pound on Piccolo and Krillin. Only Gohan is left to fight, and the young Saiyan is holding his own against Nappa.
With Goku holding Raditz in place, Piccolo hits both of them with his new attack. Before dying, Raditz reveals that two more Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappa, will be arriving on Earth in a year. The episode ends with Goku passing away. 04 04 'Run in the Afterlife, Goku!

Goku is Ginyu and Ginyu is Goku!?' November 29, 2009 July 28, 2010 The beam Ginyu fires at Goku causes the two of them to switch bodies. Goku is now trapped in Ginyu's wounded body. Krillin and Gohan arrive at Frieza's ship and dig up the Dragon Balls. Ginyu, in Goku's body, and Jeice arrive back at the ship as well, but when Ginyu tries to power up his level is only 23,000, far less than the 180,000 level Goku had before the body switch. Realizing that great strength requires unity of mind and body, Goku (in Ginyu's body) arrives and shouts to Krillin and Gohan that they can easily defeat Ginyu.
Goku, who doesn't want his friends' corpses caught in the upcoming battle with Vegeta, talks Vegeta into switching locations for their fight. After they arrive at their destination, they begin their battle. Vegeta appears to have the upper hand in strength and speed, even against Goku's Kaio-ken. Realizing this, Goku decides to triple the power of the Kaio-ken.
He then asks Trunks who is stronger: him or Goten. Trunks says he is because he is a year older and Goten has not learned to fly yet. The next day, Videl, now with shorter hair, returns for her training.
16 16 'Defeat the Invincible Vegeta! Work a Miracle, Gohan!' July 19, 2009 June 14, 2010 Krillin throws the Spirit Bomb at Vegeta and misses but Gohan rebounds it back at Vegeta, however, he survives the attack.

They then go their separate ways to prepare for the Saiyans' arrival. Now Goku starts his real training with King Kai, but will it be enough to beat the Saiyans that are getting closer to Earth by the minute?
Despite Raditz's pleas for mercy, Piccolo lets loose his attack, which kills both Goku and Raditz. Thinking they've already won, Piccolo tells Raditz (who's slowly dying) about the Dragon Balls. Once he's heard everything, Raditz tells Piccolo that his Scouter is also a transmitter and that in one year's time, two more Saiyans, more powerful than Raditz, will arrive on Earth to avenge his murder.

Wanting to escape the cave, he seeks the robot for help, but it's not interested. However, the robot lets out his soft side and helps Gohan get some mushrooms to eat. Meanwhile, Nail continues to fight Frieza to stall for the time needed for Dende to reach Krillin and Gohan. Nail eventually reveals this to Frieza after realizing he will never last if he continues; the enraged tyrant immediately charges back towards his spaceship to try to regain control of the Dragon Balls. Krillin, Gohan, and Dende take advantage of the fact that Vegeta is napping, and take the Dragon Balls away from the ship and successfully summon Porunga, the Eternal Dragon of Namek. 36 18 'Frieza Closes In! Mighty Porunga, Grant Our Wish!' December 13, 2009 September 6, 2010 Krillin and Gohan discover that although the Namekian Dragon Balls can grant three wishes, they can resurrect only one person per wish, unlike the Earth's Dragon Balls. After consulting with their dead friends via King Kai's telepathic abilities, they use the first wish to revive Piccolo, which also brings Kami and the Earth's Dragon Balls back.
He has about 88 days to prepare for the Saiyans. It turns out that the monkey is not King Kai, but it is his pet. His first task is to catch the monkey, whose name is Bubbles, but it's not going to be easy. The gravity on this tiny planet is 10 times that of Earth, making it hard for Goku to even stand up. Just when Goku is losing hope, he gets inspired after learning that his people withstand different fighting conditions.
