Air Combat Action takes the essential gameplay and background of the classic arcade hit 1942 and throws it into 3D, but while this sounds like it could make for a fun experience, it ultimately proves to be a less than an enthralling game. It's not detailed enough for, but it's also not exciting enough for dedicated shooter fans, who should probably stick with the game that inspired it or something like. There's something of a storyline here but it basically involves flying off against waves of enemy planes and ships, and blowing them apart with a hail of gunfire. You have a choice of three World War II era aircraft, each with their own unique handling and other characteristics, and then you get to fly them in a series of twenty five single player missions across five scenarios. To spice things up, you have access to a small range of weapon upgrades, including machine guns, missiles, and rather confusingly, a ray gun, and careful use of them should help even the odds a little. You've got several different enemy types to destroy too, including bombers, tanks and other planes, each of which offers its own challenge. Air Combat Action just about delivers on its simple premise, and if you're just looking for a way to mindlessly while away a couple of hours, it will probably do the job.
First, the action in this game is very intense. You keep shooting at your target until they disapear. But, however, ammunition isn't portrayed in this game. You have virtually unlimited ammo. Also, the AI is very weak, and they most fly in cirlces, waiting for you to shoot at them. They only shoot when you come near, otherwise, it's not much of a challenge to win. Graphics, for 2000, are pretty slick with heavy graphical effects.

A set of unique Commanders - split between Generals, Pilots and Captains - is gradually unlocked in the campaigns. Commanders can be attached to specific units to provide unique bonuses to anything in their command range.

Flying is simple enough, thanks to the intuitive controls, and there's certainly plenty to keep the trigger finger firing. However, it all gets a bit repetitive pretty quickly, making this fairly unmemorable.

Especially on the first, snow level, you'll afford random crashes into the hills, whilst u were thinking to be safe for another couple hundreds of meters. Sound / Music Well, out of the whole game, sounds were the only thing that did really surprise me. Pumping up the volume, you may actually find yourself into an airplane, especially when doing hard moves, you will ear the air flowing. Graphics As you can see, graphics are well done, really well done, aside from the uninspiring white mountains. Overall It's not arcade, it's not a sim, it looks good, it sounds good. Basically this game has no target, since it will disappoint both arcade and flight sim fans, though maybe some people coming from Descent and it's clones may enjoy having a 'real-life' briefing and some out-door graphics.
